THERE’S ONLY ONE CAP: BEHIND THE BAR WITH CHRIS CAP
If you’ve ever rolled through Princeton in the late ’90s and early 2000s, chances are you crossed paths with Chris Capodici. Whether it was at the legendary Alchemist & Barrister in Princeton, or back in the day La Gondola, Trenton, or later at Trenton Country Club, Chris has been a fixture in the Central Jersey hospitality scene for nearly three decades.
Today, you’ll find him at Al’s Airport Inn, slinging drinks, serving good food, and—most importantly—creating happiness. Because if you ask Cap, bartending is about so much more than pouring cocktails.
“I don’t just make drinks. I create happiness. That’s my motto.”
FROM DISHWASHER TO “ROCK STAR” BARTENDER
Chris’s story starts humbly. At just 14, he worked as a dishwasher in Chambersburg, fascinated by bartenders who seemed larger-than-life with their charisma and gift of gab. By 1997, he landed a hosting job at the Alchemist & Barrister in Princeton. A natural entertainer, he quickly moved from hosting to waiting tables, and finally—behind the bar.
“I always loved making drinks at parties,” he laughed, recalling his early days mixing Lynchburg Lemonades out of high school mugs during summers at Wildwood. “It just came naturally.”
From there, Cap never looked back. He went on to work at Teresa’s, Trenton Country Club (for nearly 20 years), and now, Al’s Airport Inn—always bringing his signature energy and positivity.
CREATING HAPPINESS IN HOSPITALITY
For Chris, bartending is more than a job—it’s a calling.
“When you’re in the hospitality industry, your job is to create happiness. Some people walk into a bar at their lowest point, and just a smile, a laugh, or a friendly conversation can change their night—or even their life.”
That philosophy earned him loyal patrons, countless friendships, and even the title of Favorite Bartender in Mercer Bucks & Central Jersey. Meet Kim Janel – Founder of the platform – click here
THE LEGEND OF “CAP”
Of course, no local legend is complete without a little fun. From custom “There’s Only One Cap” T-shirts to a bobblehead gifted by fellow bartenders, Chris’s personality has become just as iconic as his drinks.
“My friend was wearing the shirt in Vegas, and someone walked by and said, ‘I know Cap!’” he laughed. “It’s wild how many people I’ve crossed paths with.”
AL’S AIRPORT INN: A LOCAL GEM
Now at Al’s Airport Inn, a Ewing, NJ staple since 1933, Chris is back where he shines most: connecting with people over food, drinks, and conversation.
The tavern itself has undergone a fresh makeover post-COVID but still carries its rich history. With hearty portions, legendary burgers, and a welcoming vibe, it’s no wonder it’s become a hub for the community once again.
SUPPORTING LOCAL, ONE POUR AT A TIME
When you stop by Al’s Airport Inn, you’re not just getting a great drink—you’re supporting a local business, local families, and local history. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be served by Chris himself—PROOF THAT YES, THERE REALLY IS ONLY ONE CAP.
